computer casemods
This is probably one of the first projects I ever built. It was a computer case built out of clear lexan. The case turned out huge. And it weighed a ton. I am not sure why I made it so big, I think my logic was "the bigger I make it, the cooler it will stay inside". I had to screw some handles onto it to move it around.I also made a GlowPad, which is basically a piece of plexi cut, cut to the shape and size of your mouse pad. And you make it "glow" by putting a few LCD lights in the side of it. I first saw one on Metku.net.
After making a few different plexiglass cases, I eventually got tired of them. So my next project was watercooling a PC. For this I used a regular store bought PC case. The reservoir was made from, yet again, plexiglass. I used a bead of silicon glue around all the edges, then tightened all the sides down with screws to make it watertight.
The reservoir water (which is green from the freon) was circulated thru the system with an Eheim model 1048 waterpump. To keep the pumps vibrations from distributing throughout the case, I put thick rubber washers under the mounting plate before I bolted the pump down. Next it went into the CPU waterblock, and finally thru the radiator to cool (the big fan went on the outside of the raditor, like a car), and back into the reservoir. The final step was to put a window in the side of the case, to look in and see the watercooling in action.
I was very satisfied with how it all turned out. Now I knew this would help drastically in keeping my CPU cool. I don't know how accurate the temperature sensors were on that particular mobo, but I was getting readings of 7°C. which was way lower than I ever expected.
